Business Highlight: The Sunshine Depot
The Sunshine Depot has long been a fixture in downtown Elk River. With their warm, friendly atmosphere and patio seating overlooking the mighty Mississippi, they have been a favorite spot in the community to gather and enjoy great food and good company.
Last March, when Covid-19 began to change everything, our favorite local establishments faced a new and unforeseen problem of having to close their doors. But the human spirit has a way of shining its brightest in the most challenging of times.
Sue, the owner of The Sunshine Depot, along with her son Brian, worked 91 days straight to keep their business from closing. They received cards of encouragement and calls from people who wanted to help. Soon they had their curbside service up and running. The community rallied behind them, calling the Sunshine Depot, placing their orders and picking up delicious hot and fresh food.
The Bank of Elk River, the Chamber of Commerce, and the City Council were also dedicated to working, alongside Sue and her family, to make sure they had what they needed to remain successful. If you haven’t yet, be sure to stop by and enjoy their extended patio seating and excellent food.
